I said "YES" to the dress!

OBVIOUSLY the best girls day shopping trip to date! I said “YES” to the dress at Kleinfeld Bridal in NYC; what a joy, what a relief, and whatttt a dream come true!

The stress of finding a dress is a little overwhelming, especially with the added anxiety of having restrictions. What if the one I love hurts my feeding tube? What if the strap cuts in and puts pressure on my port? What if my port isn’t covered? Or even if there just isn’t a dress there that I love today!? A question a ask myself over and over again, what would I do without my mom. My support, my cheerleader, my “Eh, that dress isn’t the one. Keep looking”.

During quarantine, and the very beginning of engagement (we got engaged 5 days before the world totally shut down) while my mom sat at the dining room table sewing masks, I’d turn on “Say Yes to the Dress” and she’d listen from the other room, running over to peek when something sounded interesting! We had so much fun looking at all the different gowns, and the whole experience just looked so lovely. I mean, what girl doesn’t want to get her dress in the fashion capital of the world?

When April and May came around we started talking about where to go shopping. A local boutique wasn’t really what I was looking for, I’m not a very “boutique-esque” girl. So that left chain stores, which again, eh. I’m picky when it comes to things like denim shorts- I had no limits when it came to my wedding dress! So, with no argument from me, my mom said “What are we kidding, we should just go to Kleinfeld”! We called and made an appointment for August, and voila! We took the Amtrak train form Baltimore to Penn Station, walked through a taco bell to get some sustenance, and early that afternoon walked into one of the most divine storefronts i’ve ever seen!

Stressed as I was, I went in with STRICT rules that really helped guide the appointment- the biggest one being that I didn’t leave the dressing room if the dress caused me ANY abdominal discomfort. The stylist, Lisa, would help me get into the gown, and before even looking at myself in the mirror I would say yes or no in terms of feeding tube comfort. There is no way I could last our full wedding day in a dress that put pressure on my GJ tube.

A huge help in the appointment was being honest with Lisa and other stylists helping us about the situation and my restrictions as far as waist lines and strap-styles (because of my mediport). This helped them avoid pulling dresses from the stockroom that didn’t stand a chance. And… it made being naked in front of them while they took my measurements a lot less awkward haha.

I tried on a total of 9 dresses, the 9th being the one I picked! It helped to try on several styles “just to see”, and it showed me what I truly wanted my dress to include (I may or may not be tweaking mine to fit my vision more perfectly…Who said custom is impossible!?)

After I said yes and had my measurements done, we went into the billing office and were talked through the whole process of what’s to come. All around just so exciting and my mom and I had GIGGLES from all the fun had that afternoon! Kleinfeld Bridal became special to me in just a day and I will never ever recommend anywhere else- special thank you again to my Mom & my stylist Lisa! Just so grateful and ecstatic to be a BRIDE!
