Just got my first Gray Malin print and it feels like i’m living a dream! Gray Malin is one of my favorite colorful artists. He’s a photographer that travels the world, and takes really creative shots from the ground and from the sky! While all of his prints are beautiful, I never saw one that felt fitting to pull the trigger as my first forever-print. Until this!
In January, Drew and I went on our honeymoon to The Big Island in Hawaii, and stayed in Waikoloa Village. Not only was it our honeymoon, but it was our first trip ever just us two, which made it all the more special. We had some of the greatest days and best conversations on that trip, and we always talk about going back! Like I explain in my honeymoon recap, the resort is really big and while on the ocean, also had a lagoon in the middle. We spent most afternoons on the lagoon beach, drinking mocktails, napping or swinging in the hammocks :) They also had paddle board and kayak rentals, which we took full advantage of and did over and over during our trip!
We loved the hours we spent on the paddle board. I would sit at the front (full sun exposure for the optimal tan), and Drew would paddle us around the big lagoon! It really was big- with the whole hour we had the board, we really only did 1-2 loops! A huge attraction of the lagoon was that there were big sea turtles swimming around, so you were always passing people saying “there’s some turtles over on that end!” Haha. While we loved our days at the pool, the lagoon won us over because of those darn paddle boards. Tooooo fun!
While on the trip, Drew wanted to get me a “honeymoon gift”. For him, we picked out a beautiful watch from Na Hoku to add to his growing collection. I love that he has something so sentimental from our trip, and he wears it all the time! We looked all over for a piece just as special for me, but nothing really stuck.
WELL, just a few weeks ago I was browsing Gray Malin’s collections and found his ‘Hawaiian Islands’ collection. Amazing, as always. In the collection there are two helicopter shots taken of the same resort we stayed at! I knew something like that would be the perfect honeymoon takeaway, and a really sweet addition to our home.
With both of the photos holding sentimental value to Drew & I, we went back and forth until deciding to go with “Waikoloa Beach” — an aerial shot of the lagoon we loved to paddle around! The colors are so beautiful and vibrant, suiting our apartment decor perfectly with the greens and blues, and we added on the white framing to keep it bright. I love the way it suits our bar cart, and now it’s in a prominent spot where we can admire it all the time!
Now of course, because I love our print so much, I’m always scrolling the site to see which prints I want next! Oh boy.
